On the occasion of Buddha’s birthday (15/4 – lunar year) which is the biggest festival of Buddhist in the year, I and my family had visited Hoi Khanh Pagoda yesterday. Interestingly, this pagoda has a lot of awesome records.
Inside the main hall
Firstly, Hoi Khanh Pagoda is one of the oldest pagodas in Vietnam with the ancient wood architecture in the main hall.
Furthermore, there are so many ancient Buddha statues which have high historic values and quite hard to find in other new pagodas.
This place also preserves some memorabilia about Nguyen Sinh Sac who is the father of Ho Chi Minh when he lived and cultivated in Hoi Khanh Pagoda. These mementos are preserved in the respectful hall in this pagoda.
Beautiful outside landscape
The outdoor beautiful scene is so attractive with the combination between ancient architecture and a natural penjing.
In the pagoda garden, a small landscape which describes the valuable periods when Buddha Shakyamuni was born is placed in a small hill.
The whole ancient architecture of Hoi Khanh pagoda when looking outside.
The biggest Reclining Buddha statue on the roof in the Asia
The school of Buddhist which is in front of the pagoda is also owned and managed by the Hoi Khanh pagoda’s abbot. The Reclining Buddha statue on the school’s roof is accomplished as the biggest reclining Buddha statue in the Asia. The stair leads to the statue has 49 terraces represented for 49 years propagating Buddhist of the Lord Buddha.
How to go to this pagoda?
If you travel to Ho Chi Minh City, don’t forget to visit Hoi Khanh Pagoda which only take you about 1 hour to go by car. I guarantee that you will have a lot of awesome experiences in this place. As a Vietnamese, I was also quite surprised and felt interesting with what I have seen there.
This is the address of the pagoda. Come and discover an ancient relic just nearby Saigon.
If you wish to visit this ancient temple, you can either go by taxi or by bus. For taxi, it will take you a hour to go there and the total length of distance is 32 kilometers (starting point – point A is Ben Thanh market) See the photo below.
For visitors who prefer to travel by bus, you can catch the bus number 13 at Saigon Bus Station (in front of Ben Thanh market) to go to Cu Chi Bus stop. From there, you continue to catch the bus number 126 to go to the foot of Phu Cuong Bridge. From this bridge, the visitors can either walk 4 kilometers to the pagoda or you can hire “xe ôm” to go there. The total duration if you travel by bus is estimated for 3 hours.
As a recommendation, you should travel to this pagoda by taxi or by “xe ôm” from the starting point rather than catching the bus.
And finally, HAPPY BUDDHA’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. HAPPY VESAK DAY.
