We recently celebrated a stag party (despedida de soltero in Spanish) for one of our friends, he is actually getting married in the Mekong Delta as I write this post! All the best my friend!
The day began with a surprise for our “victim”. He thought he was going to visit a furniture factory and didn’t know he was going to be kidnapped by his friends. We put a bag over his head and tied him up and bundled him into a minivan we had rented with a driver (if you drink, don’t drive 🙂 ) to take him to a list of unknown destinations….
You should have seen the face of the people on the street because some thought it was a real kidnapping! Anyway, they soon saw it was all a joke and everybody had a good time laughing at us, crazy foreigners!
Our first stop was at a restaurant that I had never been to before. I definitely recommend this place, out of the beaten track but all (except me apparently) long time expat residents come here to sample the bbq lacquered pig.
Once more, the local patrons at this restaurant freaked out when they saw us marching in our friend (bag on head, arms tied behind his back).
Here is a photo of the food, too bad you can’t taste it, the skin of the pig is crunchy and tasty beyond belief. Not good for your waist-line but a pleasure for your taste buds 🙂
Here is the group after enjoying a great lunch!
So, for those who would like to indulge in a very authentic Vietnamese food and nice place to eat, totally of the beaten track, here is what you show your taxi driver in Ho Chi Minh City:
